Allow me to introduce you to a new weblog. The Mesilla Valley Sportsmen’s Alliance is an alliance of hunters and recreationalists with a mission of working to retain reasonable access to all our federal lands for all types of recreational activities. Whether a hunter, a birdwatcher, a 4-Wheel-Drive enthusiast or simple lover of the outdoors, your access to federal lands is being challenged at every turn.
The reintroduction of the Mexican wolf into New Mexico and Arizona has a huge potential of significantly impacting the elk population in the Gila and Apache Sitgreaves National Forest. Significant numbers of elk are being killed or translocated by wolves.
The Forest Service is in the process of constructing a Travel Management Plan for all the forests in the west. Many roads and trails are slated for closure and abandonment, designated camping areas are being considered and non-motorized game retrieval in all areas is likely to be the norm in the future.
Many areas of New Mexico have long been designated as Wilderness Study Areas. The New Mexico Wilderness Alliance is working everyday to increase the acerage of wilderness in New Mexico. Dona Ana County is currently under the gun. There is currently over 300,000 acres of federal land in Dona Ana County being proposed for wilderness designation.Â
Wilderness is being promoted by the environmental groups as the only way to save the lands from total destruction by sportsmen and ranchers. We know better and we are working every day to expose the truth about wilderness.
The Mesilla Valley Sportsmen’s Alliance (MVSA) will strive to keep you informed of issues of concern to sportsmen. We need your voice. Join us in creating a voice that can reach our congressional delegation. Joining the MVSA is simple. Go to our website and just email us your names and addresses and contact information and we will add your voice to ours.
