New Mexico Association of Counties Supports Rural Inhabitants Facing Wolf Problems

Passed by the New Mexico Association of Counties April 4 2008 in Elephant Butte New Mexico,  Resolution 2008-02 Mexican Wolf Reintroduction, Supports Counties affected by wolves that have been forced to pass ordinances allowing them emergency management to protect their citizens.

The NMAC board is made up of 33 member counties, an elected official from each county sits on the association board.  The support resolution passed unanimously without one nay vote.

One board member from Grant County voiced her own concern about current wolf management and her fear for her grandchildren after finding 2 undocumented wolves on her property for the past two months.  Uncollared wolves are of great concern in areas hit hard by the rabies outbreak.  If a wolf is not collared it is not vaccinated.

Testifying at the meeting were Catron County commissioner Ed Wierheim and Gila Livestock Growers Association President Laura Schneberger.
